Kerala Police denies terror attack threats by Islamic State in Kochi

The police in Kerala have denied receiving central intelligence inputs about the Islamic State (IS) planning an attack in Kochi.

According to TK Vinodkumar, state police intelligence chief, Kerala, police have not received any such alerts or warnings from central agencies recently.

Panic gripped in the state after national television channels flashed the news about intelligence agencies issuing alerts to the state police about the terror group planning a suicide attack in Kochi and listed shopping malls and airports which could be possible targets.

"We have no such information. It may be out of misinformation feed to the media," Vinodkumar said.

Kochi has been on the terror radar since 2008 when Lashkar -e-Taiba (LeT) operative Tahawwur Hussain Rana who was arrested along with David Coleman Headley of the US, visited Kochi before the Mumbai terror attacks.
